Alberta Health Optometry Changes
Earlier this month, Alberta Health released a bulletin that announced changes to optometric coverage for
Albertans, effective February 1, 2025. They delisted a partial eye exam code, cut in half retinal imaging and
photography codes, and removed the ability for optometrists to bill two codes in one day that could restrict
completing an eye care appointment and treatment.
The Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) and more than 900 Doctors of Optometry were not consulted in
this decision nor made aware of the changes prior to the announcement. Albertans were made aware of the
changes when it was brought to light by optometry.

These changes are going to have a negative impact on your care. Your local optometrist and the AAO are
dedicated to advocating for our patients and we are doing everything we can to ensure that the voices of our patients and members are represented and heard.
We are asking you to join us in letting your local MLA know about the importance of vision health by reaching
out to your local MLA to voice your concerns and requesting them to stop the delisting and cuts. You can do
this by phoning your MLA or emailing them at their constituency office.

If you are 18 & under or 65+ you are covered by Alberta Health Care for an annual eye exam. Ages 19-64 our professional fee is $145. We schedule each appointment for one hour to provide a thorough range of eye tests, procedures, and assessments.
Your support allows our small and locally owned practice to continue operating.

It's essential to have regular eye exams with your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist before ordering contact lenses. Remember, contact lenses are meant to supplement your glasses — not replace them. Additionally, we provide referrals to Ophthalmologists for surgical vision correction options.

At Clara Optometry, we use our ZEISS Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system to capture cross-sectional images of your eyes at the micron-level (one-thousandth of a millimetre). Computer algorithms generate detailed reports, helping us detect and monitor a variety of eye conditions.
Yes We Dilate
This process allows us to diligently assess the internal structures of your eyes. With tools like the Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope (BIO) and VOLK lenses, we are carefully searching for any vitreoretinal abnormalities. We can also closely inspect any cataracts or intraocular lenses.
